The Jessie Yoshpe Hadassah Sh'arim Study Group is currently studying "They Lit the Way: Extraordinary Women Leading Jewish Lives". It is a year long study whose curriculum explores the lives of exceptional Jewish women throughout history, their obstacles and successes. We will be comparing their lives to our own - our daily struggles, goals and challenges.
Included in this is a study of powerful Jewish women today in government, business, literature, and academia. Also, gender issues before Israel's Supreme Court, social movements of the 20th century, American Zionist women, Jewish Salon women in Christian Europe, and Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jewish women of Europe will be discussed.
The Sh'arim group meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday mornings of each month at Mosaic Law Synagogue at 9:45-11:30 a.m. in the chapel. The study is open to all women in the community. If you would like to join the study, but cannot come at that time, an additional group will be formed if there is enough interest. The only cost is for the pre-ordered Hadassah study guide and other materials.
If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Barbara at Mosaic Law, 488-1122, ext. 10.
This fall Machon HLA will be begin its second year in Sacramento!
In Machon, part of the Hadassah Leadership Academy (HLA), members study topics in a set curriculum which focuses on Jewish and Zionist education, themes, history, as well as leadership, and advocacy in a small group atmosphere.
All members and guests are invited to become participants in this innovative year-long program organized by our Sacramento Chapter. There is no charge for the program itself; however, each participant should be a member of Hadassah ($36 annual fee or be a life member already), stay involved for one year, and provide a $25 materials fee.
If you are interested in joining this wonderful, interesting, and stimulating group made up of women of all ages, please contact Marcy at machon@sachadassah.org
